About Festival

 

 

 

The International Folk Festival “The Wreath of Vršac” began in 1993, with the intention to, like many famous world festivals, preserve and cherish the most valuable things in the rich history of folk songs and dances. In essence, this folk review has the intention to present the best achievements of the international folk scene to the expert critics, as well as to the wide audience. From the very beginning, the International Folk Festival “The Wreath of Vršac” has been following the defined programme conception, including three directions of development: competitive programme, non-competitive programme and accompanying events.VenacMexico The artistic stylization of the stage folklore, as a kind of addition to the original folk structure, is performed at the Festival on stage by numerous amateur ensembles. It is verified and marked by giving awards and is a special challenge for all the people who cherish traditional values of their nations through music and dance.
During the Festival, the review and accompanying programme offer a number of interesting events, such as: concerts, exhibitions, ethnology lectures, ethno fair, learning of traditional Serbian dances. Almost 700 ensembles from the whole world participated at the 23 previous Festivals: Spain, France, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Georgia, Romania, Macedonia, India, Mexico, Republic of Srpska, Montenegro, Canada, Moldavia, Ukraine, Russia, Hungary, Slovenia, Turkey, Greece, Cyprus, Ivory Coast, Afro Columbia, Croatia, Sri Lanka, Bulgaria. The scientific meetings during the festivals have brought together more than fifty most eminent ethnologists, ethnomusicologists and choreographers from Serbia and from abroad, such as: Dr Milina Barišić, Dr Petar Vlahović, Dr Nikola Pantelić, Nice Fracile, Emilia Komišel, Stoiu Đouđev, Lajoš Vargas, Vilma Niškanović, Vesna Marijanović, Dragana Jovanović, Desanka Đorđević, Bogdanka Đurić and many others. VenacVilaThese kinds of festivals are special celebrations, which enable socializing, friendship and a wide exchange of knowledge. They deliver precious messages about the value of every individual, in every aspect, racial, linguistic, ethnic, and any other sense. The International Folk Festival ‘The Wreath of Vršac’ will show this for the twentieth time, at the five-day celebration of song and dance, in Vršac, from 9th July to 13th  July 2023.
